New District Appointments

The DC has strengthened the District Management team by making two new appointments. Penny Rothwell is the new District Youth Commissioner and Robert Rigge is the new District Network Commissioner.

Penny, aged 21, has been in scouting from explorer stage, and couldn’t wait to become a leader at 18. She Graduated from Edge Hill University with a degree in Law in 2015 and is currently doing her legal practice course to become a solicitor. She is the CSL at 13th Leigh, and is one of the youngest persons in the district to have received a wood badge. She is passionate about scouting and loves nothing more than to hear what an amazing time her young people have had. Penny wants to see a stronger Lilford district which is driven by youth voice, with more young people in leadership roles and establishing a youth forum in the coming months.

Robert, 24 years young, an Infrastructure Engineer for Ramboll in Chester who graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2014 and has been involved in scouting within GMW for the past 3 years as a member of the service team at Bispham Hall Scout Estate. When he has free time he can be found more often than not outside; climbing or walking. He’s now ready to take on Network Scouting in Lilford District with an action packed programme and a brief of getting Queen Scouts.

County Planning Day

Part of GMW’s plan for 2016 is to include as many districts in County led events. This will include activities organised by our programme team (ACCs) and Adult Training. We therefore invite all DCCs, ACCs, DCs, ADCs to the GMW 2016 Planning Day.

Saturday 21st November 2015, 10am to 3pm

The Venue:
Swinton Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford, M27 5JF.
(Close by to the A580, East Lancashire Road)

There is free parking at the rear of the Civic Centre, accessed from Partington Lane (B5231) using the postcode M27 0SS.

Registration will take place in the Main Reception to the Civic Centre which will be signposted from car parks and lunch will be provided for attendees.

Districts are invited to provide diary dates to add in to the County Calendar. There is also opportunity for you to ask the County for support in your events and activities.

The plan for the day is to meet in the council chamber for a welcome session, then we will split into our teams to share our plans for 2016. We will break for lunch and then reconvene in the chamber for a final update. Members of the County team will also be presenting some of their plans for the future.

We would welcome your attendance at what will be the first of hopefully many events of this type. Email and give your name, role, district and any dietary requirements you may have.

Freemasons donate Defibrillator to District HQ

Members of Tyldesley Lodge No 2572 recently attended at Lilford District Scout Headquarters in Tyldesley where their Worshipful Master Derek Robinson presented a defibrillator costing £780.00 to W Bro Steve Ralph, Leigh Group Charity Steward and District Commissioner of Lilford Scout District for use in the building.

The presentation took place in front of users of the building including Cub Scouts and Girl Guides,

W Bro Ralph explained to those present the importance of having this vital piece of life saving equipment in the building and once again thanked the brethren of Tyldesley Lodge for their generosity.

Also present was Tyldesley Lodge member W Bro Derek Bond a former Scout in Tyldesley who regaled those present with tales of when he attended the World Scout Jamboree in the USA in 1967, once a scout always a scout !defib1

Beaver Sleepover at “The Deep”

On the 3rd October 93 excited Beaver Scouts and leaders made their way to The Deep Aquarium in Hull for the District Beaver Sleepover. Everyone had a great time, however I don’t think the leaders got much sleep!!

Thanks to Julie (ADC Beavers) for organising another great District trip

District Scout Leaders Meeting

To All Members of the Scouts “Two Hour a Week” Club, more properly known as, All Adult Volunteers connected with the Scout Section in Lilford District.

I would very much like to meet with everyone involved with the Scouts Section in Lilford District on Thursday 15th October between 7:30pm and 9:30pm at 1st Atherton HQ, 115 Car Bank Street, Atherton, M46 9NH

I have a few ideas I would like to share with you all such as reviewing the number/type of competitions District holds, adding in ‘Experience’ events, running District Badge Courses, District Scout Camp to name a few. I already have a few ideas, please come along and share yours.

I am there to support, but I need to know how!! There is a huge change in emphasis within District / County at the minute and every meeting I have attended has been very positive with the new direction we are heading in (New Programme / Vision 2018 / Training / Adventurous Activities etc).
If you have any ideas you wish to share or questions to ask, come along. If you just want to have brew and a biscuit with friends, come along. If you want to have a moan about things, come along (if I don’t know what’s wrong, how can I help fix it!)

Please, let me know (either yes or no) your attendance and pass around to others in your Group who may not have seen this. The Invite is open to ALL Adult Volunteers connected with the Scout Section be these Section Leaders or Young Leaders or Occasional Helpers. If you are involved, your opinion counts and it would be great to see at least one member from each troop.

After all, it’s only “2 hours” See you there!
